History
Ishiuchi Dam Station opened on 11 March 1989 on JR Kyushu's Misumi (Amakusa-Misumi) Line, financed as a Misumi-port centennial project by 17 million yen raised from residents of Misumi and from people with ties to the town; a stone monument outside the station commemorates the fundraising. At opening it was hoped that visitors to the adjacent Ishiuchi Dam would increase use of the line. The station is built with a single side platform on the south-eastern side of the tracks, fitted with a simple waiting shelter near the Akase end, and is unstaffed.
Notes
Until around 2018 the train-approach chime at Ishiuchi Dam was a recording lifted straight from the municipal disaster-radio system — the song "Home, Sweet Home" (Hanyū no Yado); complaints that it was frightening led to its replacement with a generic melody.
