History
Ise-Wakamatsu Station opened on 22 December 1917, when the Ise Railway extended its line over the Chiyozaki–Kusu section. On 20 December 1925 the Kanbe branch line (present-day Suzuka Line) opened as far as Ise-Kanbe Station, making this a junction station. Through company renamings and mergers, it became a station of the Ise Electric Railway in 1926, of the Sangū Express Electric Railway in 1936, of the Kansai Express Railway in 1941, and of Kinki Nippon Railway on 1 June 1944. The Kanbe Line was renamed the Suzuka Line in the line-name revision of 8 April 1963. PiTaPa became usable on 1 April 2007, and an elevator and a dedicated footbridge came into use on 15 March 2017. The ticket window selling limited-express tickets and special excursion tickets was closed as of 20 September 2024.
Notes
It is an at-grade station with two island platforms serving four tracks, allowing trains to be overtaken, and is one of the principal stations at which Nagoya Line expresses let limited expresses pass; many daytime expresses bound for Ise-Nakagawa, and some in the evening, wait here for a limited express to overtake them.
