History

Hirokōshita Station opened on 26 January 1952 as a station of the Hirosaki Electric Railway, with the opening of the Ōwani Line in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture. The line was transferred to the Kōnan Railway on 1 October 1970, and Hirokōshita is now served by the Kōnan Railway Ōwani Line, 13.1 km from the southern terminus at Ōwani. Since 5 August 1974 the station has been operated as a kan'i itaku consignment stop; there is no station building, only a weather shelter on the single side platform, and no permanent ticket office. The station name derives from the popular shortened form of nearby Hirosaki High School, "Hirokō."
