History

Higashi-Ikoma Station opened on 20 March 1968 on the Kintetsu Nara Line between Ikoma and Tomio stations. After the New Ikoma Tunnel, built with an enlarged loading gauge, opened in 1964 and large four-car trains of 20-metre-class cars began running on the Nara Line, turning-back operations became difficult with Ikoma Station's existing facilities. Turnback facilities were therefore newly built about 1.2 kilometres east of Ikoma Station, and four years later these were developed into the present station. When it was built, the track toward Tomio was relaid to the south and the surrounding area was raised. PiTaPa has been usable since 1 April 2007. The station's secondary name is "Tezukayama University-mae," and its station number is A18.

Notes

East of the station is the Kintetsu Keihanna Line's Higashi-Ikoma rail yard, and a Higashi-Ikoma signal station has been established to branch off from the Nara Line, but it serves only the yard branch and has no accompanying passenger station.
