History

Hashirano Station was established on 1 December 1934 when a new line (later the Gantoku Line) opened between Iwakuni (present-day Nishi-Iwakuni) and Takamizu stations on the Sanyo Main Line. It became a station on the Gantoku Line in October 1944 when the Sanyo Main Line's route was returned to the Yanai route. Freight handling ended in June 1961, and parcel handling ended in March 1982, when it became an unstaffed station. It passed to West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways. It is a ground-level station with an island platform serving two tracks, located in Hashirano, Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and is an unstaffed station managed by Iwakuni Station.
