History
Handaguchi Station opened on 1 April 1931 on the privately operated Chita Railway, which became part of the Meitetsu group on 1 February 1943. The stop was suspended in 1944 and reopened on 3 November 1947 as an unstaffed station, a status it has kept ever since. Platforms were extended from four to six cars in 1987. The centralised station-management system began operating on 1 March 2007, and the Nagoya-bound entrance was sealed at the same time; the Tranpass magnetic-fare system followed on 14 March 2007. Manaca smart-card gates were activated on 11 February 2011.
Notes
The author Niimi Nankichi was born a short walk from the station, and both his birthplace and the Niimi Nankichi Memorial Museum stand nearby, as do the red spider lilies that line the banks of the Yakachi River.
