History
Habu Station opened on 27 May 1901 when the Sanyo Railway's line was completed from Asa to Bakan (present-day Shimonoseki), handling both passengers and freight from the start. Following the Sanyo Railway's nationalization in 1906 and its incorporation into the Sanyo Main Line in 1909, the station building was rebuilt in 1942. Freight handling ended in October 1964 with the closure of the Habu coal mine. The station building was rebuilt again in 1982, and parcel handling ended in 1984. It passed to JR West at the April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways. It became unstaffed in April 2018, and ICOCA became usable from April 2023.
Notes
For travel to and from the Sanyo Auto Race track south of the station, a 126-metre connecting bridge was built in 1980, opening in time for the Japan Championship Auto Race held that March.
