Location

History

Gobō Station opened on 21 April 1929 as a station on the Ministry of Railways' Kisei West Line. On 14 December 1930 the Kisei West Line was extended from this station to Inami Station, and on 15 June 1931 the Gobō Rinkō Railway (present-day Kishū Railway) opened between this station and Gobōchō Station (present-day Kii-Gobō Station), making it a jointly used station. The Kisei Main Line was completed through on 15 July 1959, and in the 15 March 1972 timetable revision some services of the limited express 'Kuroshio' began stopping here. It became a JR West station at the 1 April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways. The ICOCA IC card became usable on 17 December 2016, and the Midori no Madoguchi ceased operation on 30 November 2025.

Notes

The 283.8-km section of the Kisei Main Line between this station and Taki Station has no connecting station with any other rail line along its entire length, the longest such stretch in Japan.
