Location
History
Gero Station opened on 2 November 1930 as the terminus of the Takayama Line (renamed the Takayama Main Line in 1934), extended from Yakeishi Station. On 9 May of the following year, 1931, the line was extended to Hida-Hagiwara Station, and Gero became an intermediate station. Freight handling was discontinued in 1956, and the station became a station of Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) with the privatization and division of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Located in Kōda, Gero, Gifu Prefecture, it is a major station on the Takayama Main Line at which every "Hida" limited express train stops, and its station number is CG16. The TOICA IC card is scheduled to become usable there from 1 October 2025.
Notes
Among guests staying at Gero Onsen, the proportion who travel by rail rises to about 25% during the winter months (January and February).
