History

Gamagōri-Kyōteijō-Mae Station opened in 1968 on the Meitetsu Gamagōri Line as a consolidation of the earlier Hiroishi and Shiotsu stations; Shiotsu had itself been created in 1953 in place of the closed Takenoya and Ehata halts. The station was built to handle large passenger flows to the adjacent Gamagōri Kyōteijō boat-racing stadium and at one point held the record for the longest station name in Japan at 15 characters. Until JR Central opened Mikawa-Shiotsu Station on the parallel Tōkaidō Main Line in November 1988, Kyōteijō-Mae carried most of the traffic to the racecourse. It is unstaffed and serves Takenoya in Gamagōri, Aichi.
