History

Fuchinobe Station opened on 23 September 1908 with the Yokohama Railway between Higashi-Kanagawa and Hachiōji. The Imperial Railway Agency took over operation on 1 April 1910, with the line formally nationalised on 1 October 1917 as the Yokohama Line. A 6.1 km dedicated freight line ran from the station past neighbouring Yabe Station to the US Army Sagami General Depot until freight handling ended on 1 October 1979. JR East took over on 1 April 1987. The station was renovated on 17 January 2003, gaining a pedestrian deck and escalators on the north side. Smart platform doors entered service on 19 February 2021.

Notes

Fuchinobe is the busiest of the Yokohama Line stations that rapid services pass without stopping, carrying more passengers than Sagamihara Station in the same city, where rapid trains do stop. The 800-metre gap between Fuchinobe and neighbouring Yabe Station is the shortest between any two stations on the Yokohama Line.
