History

Dōjō Station opened on 25 January 1899, when the Hankaku Railway extended its line over the section between Arimaguchi (present-day Namaze) and Sanda stations. It became a station of the Imperial Railway Agency at the nationalization of the Hankaku Railway on 1 August 1907, was placed on the Hankaku Line in the 1909 line-name designation, and then on the Fukuchiyama Line in the 1912 revision. Parcel handling was discontinued and the station left unstaffed on 1 March 1971, and freight handling ended on 1 April 1981; the station passed to JR West at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The nickname "JR Takarazuka Line" was adopted on 13 March 1988, and the "ICOCA" IC card became usable on 1 November 2003. It is a stop for the Section Rapid service newly introduced in the timetable revision of 14 March 2020.

Notes

Although it is the only station on the Fukuchiyama Line located within Kobe City, it is not designated as one of the "Kobe City" stations under JR's passenger operating rules. This is said to be because the area was Dōjō Village in Arima District before its incorporation into Kobe City in July 1951, and because the station is far removed from the other stations covered by the "Kobe City" designation.
