Location

History

Chiji Station opened as a general station at what is now Chiji-machi, Hakui, Ishikawa Prefecture, on 24 April 1898, when the Nanao Railway line opened between Tsubata Temporary Station, Nanao Station, and Yatashin Station. The Nanao Railway was nationalized under the Railway Nationalization Act on 1 July 1907, and the station was assigned to the Nanao Line when line names were established on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1960, and parcel handling ended on 15 March 1972, at which point the station became unstaffed. It passed to West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, and the present station building was completed in July of the same year. ICOCA use began there on 13 March 2021.

Notes

A small river flows beneath the single platform on the south side of the tracks. To the north is a free parking area reserved for commuters and students, and nearby lies Ōchigata Lagoon, known as a wintering site for swans.
