Location
History
Yunishigawa-Onsen Station opened on 9 October 1986 with the new Aizu Kinugawa Line of the third-sector Yagan Railway, in the mountainous Nikkō area of Tochigi Prefecture. The platform was built inside the Katsurōzan tunnel, with the station building and an attached tourist and produce facility set on roughly 6,000 m² of levelled land created from the steep terrain in front. The single side platform is connected to the ticket gate by stairs and a lift, and the station is staffed during daytime. Although the station bears the Yunishigawa hot-spring name, the resort itself lies about 12 km away; a parallel road was rebuilt in 2011 alongside construction of Yunishigawa Dam, shortening travel time.
Notes
The station's single platform lies inside the Katsurōzan Tunnel, which makes Yunishigawa-Onsen an underground station despite its mountain-valley setting.
