History

Yumoto Station opened on 25 February 1897 on what is now the Jōban Line, 201.5 kilometres from the line's starting point at Nippori. The previous station building was completed in March 1967, and JR East took over operations on 1 April 1987 at JNR privatisation. A new station building was completed in March 2015. The platform layout consists of one island and one side platform connected to the building by a footbridge; the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 31 March 2022. The station serves as the rail gateway to the Iwaki-Yumoto hot-spring resort and the Spa Resort Hawaiians complex.
