History

Yumigahama Station is on JR West's Sakai Line in Yomi-chō, Yonago, Tottori. It opened on 1 July 1917 as a new passenger station between Gotō and Ōshinozu (today Yonago Airport Station) on the Railway Bureau's Sakai Line, then became a full general station on 1 April 1927. It reverted to passenger-only, and became unstaffed, on 11 September 1972. JR West took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987. From 16 March 2019 on-board IC card readers made the station usable with ICOCA. Two side platforms serve two tracks, allowing trains to cross, with the up line geometrically straight; the home and departure signals face only one direction, so it is not a true one-track-through layout. Like every station on the Sakai Line, it has a nickname from a yōkai folktale — 'Azukiarai' (the bean-washing spirit).

Notes

Every station on the Sakai Line has a nickname taken from a Japanese yōkai (a folkloric supernatural creature); Yumigahama's is 'Azukiarai-eki' (Bean-Washing Spirit Station).
