History
Yūfutsu Station opened on 1 October 1913 as a stop on the Tomakomai Light Railway. The line was nationalised on 1 August 1927 and renamed the Hidaka Line under the Ministry of Railways, becoming the Hidaka Main Line in 1943. On 2 December 1962 the station was relocated north of its original site in conjunction with the realignment of the Tomakomai - Hama-Atsuma section, prompted by Tomakomai Port construction. Freight handling ended on 15 November 1982 and baggage handling on 1 February 1984, after which the station was unstaffed. Control passed to JR Hokkaido on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR.
Notes
Until around 1980 a private siding from Yūfutsu served the Sanyō-Kokusaku Pulp (later Nippon Paper) Yūfutsu mill, and the station's long walkway between the platform and the station building still preserves the alignment of those vanished freight tracks.
