History

Yudaonsen Station opened on 20 February 1913 as Yuda Station (湯田駅) when the Imperial Japanese Government Railways Yamaguchi Line opened between Ogōri (today Shin-Yamaguchi) and Yamaguchi, in what is today the city of Yamaguchi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was renamed Yudaonsen on 20 March 1961. With the 1 April 1987 JNR privatisation the station passed to JR West. Limited-express Super Oki and the seasonal sightseeing steam train SL Yamaguchi both stop at the station. The station sits 10.3 kilometres from the start of the line at Shin-Yamaguchi, and is managed by Shin-Yamaguchi Station with its counter work contracted out to the JR West group company JR West Chūgoku Kōtsū Service.

Notes

A foot-bath (ashiyu) was installed in the station forecourt as part of the city of Yamaguchi's 2011 town-centre redevelopment, work that was timed for completion before the "Oidemase! Yamaguchi" National Sports Festival. The station itself stands about 400 metres from the southern edge of the Yuda hot-spring district, whose centre is roughly 700 metres away.
