History
Yūbikan Station opened on 16 March 1996 and is a ground-level station on the JR East Rikuu East Line with a single side platform serving one track, located at Kami-Kawahara, Iwadeyama, Ōsaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. It is an unstaffed station managed by the Kogota General Center (Furukawa Station), with a boarding-certificate issuing machine installed in the waiting room. In the plaza in front of the station stands an equestrian statue of Date Masamune, originally displayed on the second-floor concourse of Sendai Station and donated by JR East; it has been on display there since 16 March 2008. Yūbikan, the school for learning that gives the station its name, was built in the Edo period by the Iwadeyama Date family of the Sendai Domain; because the station was set up for this historic building, it was selected as one of the "100 Notable Stations of Tōhoku" in 2002. Eki-net Q-ticket service began on 1 October 2024.
Notes
The equestrian statue of Date Masamune standing in the station plaza was originally displayed on the second-floor concourse of Sendai Station and was relocated after being donated by JR East.
