History

Yotsukura Station opened on August 29, 1897 as a Nippon Railway general-traffic station; the Nippon Railway was nationalized on 1 November 1906, and the station became part of the Jōban Line under the line-name reform of October 1909. A private siding served the Iwaki Cement works (later the Sumitomo Cement Yotsukura plant) immediately west of the station from September 1908; the siding was abolished in 1985 and the works closed in September 1986. Double-tracking between Kusano and Yotsukura was completed on 22 July 1967. The station passed to JR East at the 1987 JNR privatization. Services were suspended from 11 March to 17 April 2011 after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake. From 14 March 2020 the station was incorporated into the Tokyo suburban fare area and Suica became usable, and a new west entrance plaza and pedestrian overbridge came into use on 26 March 2022.

Notes

The station name is written 四ツ倉 (Yotsukura) but the surrounding town is 四倉町 (Yotsukura-machi), written without the katakana ツ, and the nearby Jōban Expressway parking area also uses the town's spelling (Yotsukura PA).
