History
Yoshio Station opened on 1 June 1952, operated by Japanese National Railways. It was newly built, together with Kaiji Station and others, to coincide with the assignment of KiHa 41000-series railcars to the Hitoyoshi depot, and it opened as an unstaffed station. It was inherited by JR Kyushu at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, becoming a Hisatsu Line station. It has one side platform serving one track, cut into a mountain slope, has no station building, and its platform waiting shelter closely resembles that at Kaiji Station, which opened at the same time. The Hisatsu Line was cut by the July 2020 torrential rains, and restoration work has proceeded since fiscal 2025 with the aim of restoring rail service in fiscal 2033. Located at Ebirase, Ashikita-machi, Ashikita District, Kumamoto Prefecture, it looks out from its platform onto the Kuma River.
Notes
Along the Yoshio River near the station lies Yoshio Onsen, also known as "Tsuru no Yu," and from the platform in front of the station one can look directly out onto the flow of the Kuma River.
