History
Yoshino Station opened on 16 March 1991 as a new station added by JR Kyushu to the existing Kagoshima Main Line track between Wataze and Ginsui in northern Ōmuta. SUGOCA IC card acceptance began on 1 March 2009, and the staffing of the ticket window was entrusted to the Ōmuta Tourist Association from 2010, the station becoming a kan'i itaku station on 1 April 2016. The ticket window was finally withdrawn on 1 April 2024, making the station effectively unstaffed for ticket sales while still offering IC card use. Only local services stop at Yoshino. The station carries the station number JB25 on the Kagoshima Main Line.
Notes
An entrance gate on platform 2 leads directly onto the grounds of Meikō Gakuen secondary school next to the station and is opened only in the morning for use by staff and students.
