History

Yōrō Station opened on 31 July 1913 with the opening of the section between this station and Ikeno Station on the first Yōrō Railway (later the Kintetsu Yōrō Line). It became a through-station when the line was extended to Kuwana Station in April 1919, and the current station building was completed that May. The operating company changed repeatedly thereafter: merger into Ibigawa Electric in 1922, the spin-off of the Yōrō Electric Railway in 1928, merger into the Ise Electric Railway in 1929, and the formation of Kintetsu (Kinki Nippon Railway) in 1944, until the line was transferred from Kintetsu to the (second) Yōrō Railway on 1 October 2007, the arrangement that continues to the present. The Taishō-era station building, selected in the second round of the "100 Best Stations of the Chūbu Region," remains in use; it is the building that once housed the head office of the first Yōrō Railway.

Notes

On the hip-and-gable section above the station building's entrance are roof tiles engraved with the letter Y, the initial of the first Yōrō (railway), and gourds (hyōtan), a local specialty of Yōrō Town, are hung from the ceiling of platform 1.
