History

Yomogita Station opened on 5 December 1951 as a station of Japanese National Railways' Tsugaru Line. Freight handling other than small-lot consignments ended on 21 October 1958; the station went unstaffed at night in October 1961; freight handling was ended entirely on 21 July 1968; and parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. It became a station of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and was fully unstaffed in December 2001 when the dispatch of staff from the managing station, Kanita Station, was discontinued. A new station building consisting only of a waiting room was completed in December 2008. On 1 June 2019, with Kanita Station's move to contracted staffing, the managing station was changed to Aomori Station.

Notes

The station was formerly a passing station with one island platform serving two tracks, but when the Tsugaru-Kaikyō Line opened, the effective track length within the station could not accommodate long freight trains, so it was reduced to a single through track; the platform was relocated toward Gōsawa Station, and the old platform, which was never removed, still stands.
