History

Yokobori Station opened on 5 July 1905 as a station of the Imperial Railway Agency in Ono Village, Ogachi District, Akita Prefecture (present-day Yuzawa City). Freight handling ended on 20 September 1980 and parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985, and on 1 November 1986 the station became unstaffed and its operation was placed under simplified consignment. It became a JR East station at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, and on 1 April 2021 the supervising station changed from Yuzawa Station to Yokote Station. On 1 April 2023, Yuzawa City's simplified consignment was also discontinued, and the station became unstaffed all day. Following the de-electrification of the section between Shinjō and Innai stations in the timetable revision of April 2025, platform track 3, which had been out of use, was brought back into use for transfers.

Notes

When the Shinjō-to-Innai stretch of the Ōu Main Line was de-electrified in April 2025, Yokobori's long-mothballed Platform 3 was returned to service so that diesel trains from Shinjō could meet electric Akita-bound trains across the same platform.
