History
Yōkaichi Station is a station on the Ōmi Railway in Yōkaichi-Hamanochō, Higashiōmi, Shiga Prefecture, carrying station number OR15. It opened on 24 July 1898 as a station on the Main Line, and became a junction with the Yōkaichi Line when the section between this station and Shin-Yōkaichi opened on 1 January 1946. A new station building was completed on 13 June 1998, and the Ōmi Railway Museum opened within the station on 2 November 2019. On 5 April 2022, the community radio station "FM Higashiōmi" relocated its studio into the station's waiting room, known by the nickname "Eki-naka Kyoku" (in-station studio). It is a staffed station throughout the day and was selected in the first round of the "100 Kinki Region Stations."
Notes
The station building is the largest on the Ōmi Railway, and it was also the first station to introduce an automatic announcement system and an LCD departure indicator.
