History
Yodo Station opened on 15 April 1910 alongside the rest of the Keihan Main Line, its location shaped by the large-scale river improvement works carried out after the great Meiji flood of June 1885. It survived recurring floods through the 20th century, including the 1917 Taishō flood and Typhoon Muroto in 1934, before Kyoto City, Keihan and the Japan Racing Association began a joint feasibility study in 1996 into elevating the tracks. Funded 60 percent by the Japan Racing Association, the elevated station serving Kyoto Racecourse opened in stages on 12 September 2009 (down line) and 28 May 2011 (up line), with a fourth track — a passing loop — entering service in January 2013. Yodo now has two island platforms serving four tracks, the two centre tracks carrying the main line, and Chūshojima, the next station to the north, lies 4.4 km away, the longest gap between adjacent stations anywhere on the Keihan network.
Notes
On days when racing is held at Kyoto Racecourse, rapid express and express trains that normally pass through make special stops at Yodo. Separately, the Japan Racing Association funded 60 percent of the cost of elevating the station.
