History

Yatsugi Station opened on 7 June 1922 when the Geibi Railway extended its line from the original Miyoshi Station (now Nishi-Miyoshi) to Shiomachi Station (now Kamisugi). Following partial nationalisation on 1 June 1933, the line became part of the state-owned Shōbara Line, then the Sanjin Line in 1936, and finally the Geibi Line on 1 July 1937. Freight handling ended on 1 June 1960. Station duties were contracted out to Nihon Kōtsū Kankōsha on 16 April 1963, and the station became an unstaffed simple-commission stop on 20 December 1971. With JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. The original island platform was rebuilt as a single side platform. Ticket sales by the front-of-station shop ended on 31 March 2008.

Notes

Yatsugi mainly serves students commuting to Hiroshima Prefectural Miyoshi High School, even though the station is unstaffed and reduced to a single track.
