History
Yanagita Station was established on 10 December 1921 as the Ōu Main Line's Yanagita signal station in the area of Yokote-chō, Hiraka District, and was upgraded to a station on 7 November 1926. Freight handling ended in 1962 and parcel handling in 1976, at which point the station became unstaffed, and it became a JR East station at the privatisation of the national railway in 1987. In 2017 it was rebuilt as a single-story wooden station building using Akita cedar, its exterior renewed with a willow-tree motif. It has two facing platforms serving two tracks and is operated unstaffed under the management of Yokote Station.
