History

Yanagawa Kibōnomori Kōen-mae Station opened on 1 July 1988 on the Abukuma Express Line. The station, 20.0 rail kilometres from the line's official starting point at Fukushima, is in Yanagawa-machi Kitamachigashira in the city of Date in Fukushima Prefecture. The station building was completed on 1 July 1989. After the suspension of services caused by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake on 11 March 2011, the station was destaffed administratively on 1 April 2011, with 11 March 2011 effectively its last day as a staffed station. In 2002 it was named one of the 100 representative stations of the Tōhoku region.

Notes

Written out in kana the station name is sixteen characters long, making it the fifth-longest station name in Japan; among railway stations alone it held the top spot until 1990, when Chōjagahama Shiosai Hamanasu Kōen-mae Station opened on Kashima Rinkai Railway's Ōarai Kashima Line.
