History
Yamanouchi Station opened on 25 March 1910 as a stop on the Arashiyama Electric Tramway's new line between Kyoto Station (today's Shijō-Ōmiya) and Arashiyama, in what is now Kyoto's Ukyo Ward. Ownership passed to Kyoto Dento's Arashiyama Dentetsu after a 1918 merger, then to Keifuku Electric Railroad in 1942 through line succession. The stop, numbered A4, has two opposing safety-zone platforms reached by a pedestrian crossing rather than conventional station platforms. Today it serves the Keifuku Randen Arashiyama Line, with trams running toward Shijō-Ōmiya and Arashiyama, between Nishioji-Sanjo and Randen-Tenjingawa.
Notes
The safety zone that serves as the platform is only about 60 centimeters wide, sometimes described as the narrowest station platform in Japan.
