History

Yamahana 9-jō Stop (SC20) is on the Sapporo Streetcar Yamahana Line in Chūō-ku, Sapporo, at the Nishi-7-chōme-dōri/Kikusui-Asahiyama-Kōen-dōri intersection. It opened on 25 August 1923 as Nakajima-bashi-dōri Stop, was renamed Yamahana 9-jō on 8 July 1957, then renamed Chūō-Hokenjo-mae ("Central Health Centre front") on 1 June 1962, and back to Yamahana 9-jō on 29 April 1993 after the health centre relocated. The stop number SC20 was assigned on 1 April 2015. The section between Yamahana 9-jō and Higashi-Honganji-mae is the steepest gradient on any active Sapporo Streetcar line.

Notes

Yamahana 9-jō Stop sits at the steepest active gradient on the Sapporo Streetcar network — the stretch to Higashi-Honganji-mae — and has an unusual naming history: it opened as Nakajima-bashi-dōri in 1923, became Yamahana 9-jō in 1957, was renamed Chūō-Hokenjo-mae in 1962, and returned to Yamahana 9-jō in 1993 after the health centre moved away.
