History

Yachimata Station, on the Sōbu Main Line in the city of Yachimata in Chiba Prefecture, opened on 1 May 1897 as a station of the private Sōbu Railway, handling both passenger and freight services. On 1 September 1907 the Sōbu Railway was nationalised and the station passed to the Japanese Government Railways. The Chiba Prefectural Railways Yachimata Line ran from the station between 18 May 1914 and 14 May 1940. A new station building was completed in 1926 and replaced again in July 1984. Scheduled freight ended on 15 November 1982. With the 1987 JNR privatisation the station joined JR East, express services began on 16 March 1991, and the present station building opened in April 2004.

Notes

A prefectural railway, the Chiba Prefectural Railways Yachimata Line, ran from this station for twenty-six years before closing in May 1940.
