History
Uzen-Numazawa Station opened on 10 November 1933 with the opening of the Japanese National Railways Yonesaka East Line between Tenoko and this station, and became an intermediate station when the line was extended from here to Oguni on 30 October 1935. The entire line was closed by the Uetsu heavy-rain disaster of 28 August 1967, and an account remains of 372 tour-group passengers stranded at the station being given emergency meals. The station was converted to CTC and made unstaffed on 28 February 1983, its building was rebuilt around 1984, and it became a station of East Japan Railway Company at the National Railways' privatization and division on 1 April 1987. The sections on either side were closed by heavy-rain damage on 3 August 2022, and service on that section of the Yonesaka Line remains suspended.
Notes
A record remains that during the 1967 Uetsu heavy-rain disaster, 372 tour-group passengers were stranded at the station and received emergency meals from local residents.
