History

Uzen-Mizusawa Station opened on 5 September 1926 as a general station on the National Railways' Uetsu Main Line. It is located at Ōhiro, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture. Freight handling, other than to and from private sidings, ended on 1 September 1972, and parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. With the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, it became a station of both the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and the Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight). Container freight handling began on 13 March 1988, but handling of container freight by wagon ended around May 2014; the station was then treated as the Uzen-Mizusawa off-rail station before being abolished on 31 March 2017. A new station building came into use in October 2013.

Notes

A private siding once branched off to the Mizusawa Plant of Mizusawa Industrial Chemicals and was used to transport products in 12-foot containers and chemicals in tank containers, but this was switched to truck transport in 2014.
