Location

History

Urayasu Station (T-18) opened on 29 March 1969 on today's Tokyo Metro Tōzai Line, in a part of Urayasu-machi then so isolated it was nicknamed a "land island"; the area quickly grew into a bedroom town. Rapid trains skipped the station until 1975, and a March 1996 revision made all rapid trains stop there too, ending the previously nonstop run between Tōyōchō and Nishi-Funabashi. Tokyo Disneyland opened nearby in 1983, and until Maihama Station opened in 1988, this was the park's nearest station, reached by route buses from an adjacent terminal. Elevated, with two opposing platforms, the station passed to Tokyo Metro when the Teito Rapid Transit Authority was privatized in 2004, and today serves central Urayasu.

Notes

Urayasu Station shares its name with a station in Kotoura, Tottori Prefecture, on JR West's San'in Main Line; the two stations maintain an ongoing collaboration under the tagline "the other Urayasu," for which local volunteers in Kotoura produced a poster in October 2015.
