History

Urashuku Station is a station on the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) Ishinomaki Line at Urashuku, Urashuku-hama, Onagawa-chō, Oshika District, Miyagi Prefecture. It opened on 12 February 1956 as a station of Japanese National Railways, and was an unstaffed station handling only diesel-railcar passengers from opening. It passed to JR East at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987. The entire line was suspended by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 11 March 2011, and service resumed with the restoration of the section between Watanoha and this station on 16 March 2013; the section between this station and Onagawa Station was also restored on 21 March 2015. Since 6 August 2016 some Senseki-Tōhoku Line trains have stopped there. A new waiting area came into use on 25 March 2024, and improvements to the station plaza were completed on 8 April.

Notes

Mangokuura Bay can be seen from within the station premises, and a boat is placed in a conspicuous spot there; it is not a stranded vessel but a boat used for aquaculture.
