History

Uranosaki Station opened on 1 October 1930 as a station on the Railway Ministry's Imari Line (later the Matsuura Line). Freight handling ended in 1962 and parcel handling in 1984; it became a JR Kyushu Matsuura Line station at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987. It was converted to the third-sector Matsuura Railway's Nishi-Kyushu Line on 1 April 1988, becoming unstaffed at the same time. During the JNR era it was also a stop for the express "Hirado." On 31 March 2013 a station nameplate bearing the nickname "Sakura no Eki" ("Cherry Blossom Station") was newly installed. It is located at Tateiwa, Yamashiro-chō, Imari City, Saga Prefecture, and is the nearest station to Uranosaki Port, the crossing point for Fukushima in Imari Bay.

Notes

Within the station grounds, many cherry trees have been planted by the "Uranosaki Station Cherry Blossom Preservation Society," formed by local residents, and during the blooming season the "Cherry Blossom Station Festival" is held.
