History

Uguisuno Station opened on 21 November 1965 as a station on the Japanese National Railways Obonai Line. On 4 September of that year an opening date of 1 October had been announced, but when it emerged that the station building and platform had not yet been built, the opening was cancelled, and the station instead opened the following November as an unstaffed passenger station. It became a station of the Tazawako Line in the line reorganization of 20 October 1966 and passed to JR East at the privatisation of the national railway in 1987. Since 1 October 2020 it has been under the management of Ōmagari Station; it is an unstaffed ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, with a waiting shelter on the platform.

Notes

Japanese National Railways once announced that Uguisuno Station would open on 1 October 1965, but the opening was cancelled when it was found that the station building and platform had not yet been built, and the station followed the unusual course of opening anew about seven weeks later, on 21 November of the same year.
