History
Ubadō Station opened on 1 November 1934 as one of the stations added by the Ministry of Railways as a countermeasure against buses, accompanying the introduction of railcars to the Aizu region and the start of short-distance service. Many stations established under similar circumstances were either abolished under wartime petroleum-consumption restrictions or became stops for all trains after the war, but between Aizuwakamatsu and Kitakata the arrangement of only some trains stopping survives today. The station was suspended on 10 June 1945 and reinstated on 10 June 1946. It became a station of East Japan Railway Company at the National Railways' privatization and division on 1 April 1987, and the timetable revision of 17 March 2012 added one round trip of daytime stops. With Kitakata Station's move to contracted service on 1 October 2017, it came under the management of Aizuwakamatsu Station from the same day, and the eki-net Q-ticket service began on 1 October 2024.
Notes
The station's name derives from Ubadō Village, its location at the time of opening; although the place name "Ubadō" later disappeared through mergers, it survives as a remnant in the station name.
