History
Tsukijishijō Station opened on 12 December 2000 with the completion of the Toei Ōedo Line, serving the Tsukiji district of Chūō ward that gave it its name. As Toei Subway station E-18, it sat next to the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market for nearly two decades; the market relocated to Toyosu in October 2018 and the vacated buildings were demolished. PASMO acceptance arrived in March 2007, and platform-edge doors entered service on 24 September 2011. Asked about the station's name in September 2018, Toei said a change was not even under consideration, citing how well established the name is and the fact that the future use of the cleared market site had not been settled.
Notes
The Ōedo Line platform is sited at the Ginza end of Tsukiji, near Shōwa-dōri, which makes the station the Ōedo Line's gateway to Ginza even though it is named after the former market next door.
