History
Tsukanome Station opened on 1 May 1960 as a station of Japanese National Railways. From its opening it was an unstaffed station handling only diesel-railcar passengers. It became a station of the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987, and Eki-net Q-ticket service began on 1 October 2024. It is a ground-level station on the JR East Rikuu East Line with a single side platform serving one track, located at Kanazara, Furukawa-Tsukanome, Ōsaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, equipped with a simple concrete station building doubling as a waiting room, and is an unstaffed station managed by the Kogota General Center (Furukawa Station). A simplified automatic ticket machine was added around 2018, but following the consumption-tax increase of 2019 a boarding-certificate issuing machine has been installed.
Notes
After the Ōsaki City Hospital relocated in 2014 to the Honami district, about 1.5 kilometres from the station, Ōsaki City has planned to relocate the station in March 2025, with the Gōhoku Park site, 400 metres east of the current station, considered the leading candidate location.
