Location

History

Tōyōchō Station opened on 14 September 1967 on the Teito Rapid Transit Authority's Tōzai Line, serving at first as the line's eastern terminus. The extension to Nishi-Funabashi on 29 March 1969 made it an intermediate stop and the point from which rapid services ran non-stop to Nishi-Funabashi. Improvement work from December 1998 to August 2004 widened part of the platforms from 3.5 metres to as much as 7.25 metres and added escalators and elevators. Tokyo Metro inherited the station on 1 April 2004, PASMO acceptance began on 18 March 2007, and on 9 September 2009 a maintenance machine ran head-on into an 05-series train stabled in the station. On 31 March 2016 a central ticket gate and a fifth entrance were added on the Nishi-Funabashi-bound platform, prompted by year-on-year growth in passenger numbers.

Notes

Tōyōchō is the busiest single-line station in the Tokyo Metro network — busier even than the transfer station of Monzen-Nakachō on the same line.
