History

Tosa-Ananai Station opened on 28 October 1934 when the Kōchi Line was extended northwards from Ōsugi to Toyonaga. The original site lay on a curving alignment along the Yoshino River and its Ananai River tributary, but deformation of the Nishiyashiki Tunnel forced a realignment. The line was diverted on 30 March 1954 and the station was relocated to a site near where the old and new alignments rejoined, built on excavated spoil from the Wada Tunnel. JR Shikoku took over at the 1987 privatisation; the station is now unstaffed, with a single side platform and the freight-platform footprint still visible. It carries the number D31.

Notes

Because Tosa Electric Railway's Aki Line already had an 'Ananai Station' when this station opened, the old province name 'Tosa' was prefixed to disambiguate.
