History
Torokko Saga Station is the eastern terminus of the Sagano Scenic Railway's Sagano Scenic Line, opened on 27 April 1991 in Saga Tenryū-ji Kurumamichi-chō, Ukyō-ku, Kyoto. It has its own station building next to that of JR West's Saga-Arashiyama Station on the San'in Main Line, the JR gateway to Kyoto's Sagano and Arashiyama sightseeing district. The station building was rebuilt in 1997, and the 19th Century Hall and "Diorama Kyoto JAPAN" — home to one of Japan's largest HO-scale model railway collections — opened in 2003 and 2011 respectively. A static D51 51 steam locomotive stood by the main entrance until it was removed in December 2019 due to aging.
Notes
The 19th Century Hall and the adjacent main entrance once displayed three preserved Japanese steam locomotives — JNR Class C58 48, C56 98 and D51 51 — though the D51 was removed in December 2019 because of its deteriorating condition.
