History
Tomura Station is a station on JR West's Obama Line, located at Izaki, Wakasa Town, Mikata-Kaminaka District, Fukui Prefecture. It opened on 15 December 1917 as the terminus of the government railway's Obama Line, beginning passenger and freight handling, and became a through station with the extension to Obama Station on 10 November 1918. Freight handling ended on 1 March 1961; passenger operations became unstaffed on 15 March 1973 (train-operation staff remained assigned), and train-operation duties were also unstaffed on 1 November 1986. It became a station of JR West with the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, and became fully unstaffed on 1 April 1991. The station building was renovated on 20 March 2022. It is a ground-level station with an island platform serving two tracks; the main line forms a Y-shaped junction, subject to a 50 km/h speed limit when entering the station.
Notes
The distance to the neighboring Fujii Station to the north is only 2.0 kilometers, the shortest inter-station distance on the Obama Line.
