History

Tōkawa Station (Kōchi Prefecture) opened on 1 March 1974 as an unstaffed Japanese National Railways station. It was inherited by Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku) at the JNR privatization of 1 April 1987. It was originally a ground-level station with one island platform and two tracks, but after the timetable revision of 26 March 2016 it was single-tracked to one platform and one track, using only the down-line side toward Ekawasaki/Uwajima. It is located at Tōkawa, Shimanto-chō, Takaoka District, Kōchi Prefecture; the platform sits on a bluff on the north bank of the Shimanto River, reached by a stairway from the entrance on the Wakai Station side. It is unstaffed; its station number is G32. In summer there are Shimanto River tourists among its users, but its main users are students commuting to the high school in the town's Taishō district.

Notes

This station on the Yodo Line and the Tōkawa Station on the Tsugaru Railway Line in Aomori Prefecture share the same kanji spelling but different readings — this one "Tōkawa," the other "Togawa" — making them same-name stations; to avoid confusion, JR Shikoku tickets and the like note the reading "Tōkawa" alongside the name.
