History

Tōkaichiba Station opened on 1 April 1979 as a JNR station on the Yokohama Line, at the same time as Naruse Station on the far side of nearby Nagatsuta; a few days earlier, on 26 March 1979, the station hosted the completion ceremony held by the association promoting the double-tracking of the Yokohama Line. On the opening day, staff forgot to open the shutters before the first train of the day departed. The station passed to JR East at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987, gained automated ticket gates in 1994 and Suica acceptance on 18 November 2001, and was assigned station number JH20 when station numbering was introduced on 20 August 2016.

Notes

On the station's opening day, 1 April 1979, staff forgot to open the shutters before the first train of the day departed — an incident still recorded in the station's chronology.
