History

Tohori Station was newly established on 20 November 1935 as a passenger-only station between Nozato and Nibuno stations on the Railway Ministry's Bantan Line. It was suspended from operation on 10 August 1941 and reopened on 25 June 1951. It became a station of West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and a passing (crossing) facility was newly installed with the line's electrification on 14 March 1998. The "ICOCA" IC card became usable on 26 March 2016, and the managing station was changed from Fukusaki to Toyooka on 1 June 2022.

Notes

The station's name is said to derive from a legend recorded in the "Harima no Kuni Fudoki" (Gazetteer of Harima Province): when Emperor Ōjin's blade grew dull as he cut away the weeds along the road, he ordered "to-hori-ko" — "dig up a whetstone and bring it to me" — and the place name Tohori is held to come from those words.
