Location
History
Tōbu-dōbutsu-kōen Station opened on 27 August 1899 as Sugito Station when the Tōbu Railway's line between Kita-Senju and Kuki was completed, in what is now Miyashiro, Minami-Saitama District, Saitama Prefecture. The Tōbu Nikkō Line started here on 1 April 1929, running through to Shin-Kanuma, making the station the line's origin. On 16 March 1981, ahead of the opening of Tōbu Zoo Park later that month, the station was renamed Tōbu-dōbutsu-kōen and given an overhead station building, and through-services from the Eidan Subway Hibiya Line were extended from Kita-Kasukabe to Tōbu-dōbutsu-kōen. Through-running with the Hanzōmon and Tōkyū Den-en-toshi lines began on 19 March 2003, and on 16 March 2013 Hibiya Line through-services were extended to Minami-Kurihashi.
Notes
Until Sugito-Takanodai Station opened on the Nikkō Line in 1986, this station also functioned as the central station for the neighbouring town of Sugito, whose name it bore until 1981.
